Weblog–

Welcome to the Miss TG Brighton 2006 weblog. We’ll be keeping you up to date on our progress, what you can expect to see and who will be at the most glamorous TG evening on the South Coast.

Our team this year includes some faces who will be familiar to those of you who have attended the previous contests. Of course Sue Sheppard, owner of Fantasygirl and originator of Miss TG Brighton, is on board along with Dessie, who is writing and producing our evening’s entertainment. Ashley Davison and Sandra Brighton, who came third in 2005, have stepped backstage to help organise and publicise the contest. Julie Craig returns as our put-upon stage manager, and Heaven Star has stepped in to design and support this website.

We’re looking forward to giving you all a bigger, more spectacular and more glamorous night than ever before. We hope to see you there.

Weblog Update 6th July–

The preparations are moving on apace; tickets are being sold; contestants are applying and the VIP guest list for the evening is being written. Following on from her triumph last year Melissa Lilac won’t be competing again this time round. Instead she’ll be on our panel of judges, along with Stephanie Starlet from the film Kinky Boots. Other judges are yet to be confirmed, though we can reveal that there has been serious interest from a well known celebrity.

On the week beginning Monday 17th July we will be shooting a short film in Brighton to celebrate the transgendered community here. If you’d like to take part in the filming or help out behind the scenes all you have to do is get in touch via misstgbrighton@yahoo.co.uk

Weblog Update 24th July–

We’ve had quite a week: two days of filming in the blistering heat in and around Brighton. I don’t think we could have picked a worse two days for a handbag of transvestites to walk the streets. Much powder was applied as our shiny make-up started to part company with our faces.

Special mention must go to Nikki, our principal girl, who had to shoot take after take, walking through the locations again and again as her heels sunk into the tarmac. As for Marniah the lobster, perhaps the less said the better? Though she did sterling work behind the scenes even though she was just too pink to appear in the film. Last year’s winner, Melissa Lilac, made a special trip down from Scotland to shoot her scenes.

Thanks too to Mortgage Advisory Services, our principal sponsor, who gamely allowed us into their offices to shoot some footage. Unfortunately no customers came through the door in the short time we were there. We were hoping to try and get some commission for ourselves by making a sale or two.

The completed film should be available for download in short snippets in the next week or two. We hope you enjoy seeing it.

Weblog Update 10th August–

Well, who could have realised that editing could be so much fun? It probably hasn’t helped that the writer/director and editor/director lived so far apart, but we have been working on it I promise you. Just sound and rendering to do now, so it’s on its way.

We’ve added an accommodation page to the website as we’ve heard that the TUC will be in town that week so it’s better to organise hotel rooms sooner rather than later.

The TUC also gave me an idea for a publicity stunt – The Transgendered Unification Council. I had an idea that in the manner of ‘Fathers for Justice’ we could have scaled the Clock Tower clad as Wonder Woman and Batgirl. Needless to say some of my co-conspirators scotched this plan in the very early stages! However, one of our charities, The Clare Project, will be celebrating their first anniversary at around the time of the contest and it’s a good idea to publicise their achievements at this time. All things considered it’s a far more sensible news story.

Weblog Update 6th September–

Enthralling entertainment for the evening has now been finalised. We have the world debut of the dazzling Stevie Stone and her Darling Divas, plus Lynne Daniels' Beautiful Burlesque, Elvis the Girl 'Las Vegas Glitz' and a special performance taken from 'Hedwig and the Angry Inch'.

Also up on stage we'll have an address from his Worshipfulness The Mayor of Brighton and Hove, and a representative from the Trades Union Congress. Possibly most importantly (!) the evening will feature the world premiere of 'A TGirl in Brighton' - our little featurette set in the cosmopolitan world of the South Coast.

Weblog Update 9th September–

There's going to be plenty to do at Miss TG besides watching the entertainment and the pageants.

We have make-overs courtesy of The Body Shop. For a small fee you can get either a quick re-touch or try out a new look and get some tips. Right next door to them will be a portrait photographer where you will be able to get an instant snap of yourself as a keepsake of the contest.Proceeds from both of these ventures will be going to our charities.

Body Shop products will also bo on sale on the night, with a percentage of the revenue earned going to the fund.

So don't forget to bring a purse stuffed with pennies!!
